whats the best way to make home made wine?

I’m about to deploy to iraq for a second time and I’m looking for recipes on how to make wine with whatever fruits are available at the mess hall. Any advice?
Alcohol can be derived by allowing yeast to ferment any sort of sugar. If you have nothing else, you can make wine by mixing a packet of baker’s yeast into a bucket of fruit juice with an airlock and allowing it to sit and ferment for a week and a half or two. A rudimentary airlock can be constructed by drilling a hole in the lid of the bucket you’re using as a fermenter and running a length of plastic tubing into a glass or bottle of water. This will allow the carbon dioxide produced in the process of fermentation to escape the fermenter without allowing air to be sucked back up the tube. The resulting wine will be very, very yeasty however, so it’s usually a good idea to use designated wine yeast, which can be purchased cheaply from many online retailers. Ideally, you’d also use wine grapes, although wine can be made from any type of fruit with a reasonable sugar content.
Do you have a recipe for OLD-FASHIONED HOMEMADE GRAPE WINE that uses only grapes, yeast, water, and sugar?

My friend is wanting to make homemade grape wine like his grandparents used to do. He doesn’t know the recipe, but he thinks it only requires about 4 ingredients including:
Grapes
Water
Sugar
Yeast
Know of any recipes like this?
Thanks!
Grape wine doesn’t have water or sugar added — there is enough juice and sugar in the grapes.

What will the grape vines in TEMECULA look like at the end of October?
Posted in: Grape Growing by admin on
I am planning on going to Temecula this month (25th-27th) to stay at a winery called SOUTH COAST WINERY RESORT & SPA. I am wondering if anyone knows what the grape vines will look like this time of season as I don’t want to be looking at a bunch of dead brown vines. Any input is appreciated- Thank you!
Will there be any grapes on the vines? Will it still be "beautiful" looking?
The grapes will mostly be gone. The vines may still be green. The harvest is generally over by late Sept. The weather will probably be a little cool for a beach trip but there are many things to do with a short drive if you want.
How to prune grape vines in the first Year?
Posted in: Grape Growing by admin on
I planted 5 grapevines in my yard this year and I am unsure on how to prune them. 3 of the 5 have leaves growing out of the sides and the other 2 dont have anything. Do I need to cut the leaves off? Do I need to cut off all but one of the wooden parts?
Here are detailed instructions:

I’m interested on making wines but i dont know how can I produce both Grape wine and fruit wines.
One more thing , how mangosteen wine is produced, How they get the juice out of mangosteen while it had lots of seeds?
To make wine at home, these are my favorite resources:

For virtually any fruit wine, the fruit is crushed in a press to extract the juice. Depending on the style, the pulp and seeds will be left in the must to ferment with the juice. For others, it will be strained out.
I just finished a batch of pomegranate wine (where the seeds pretty much ARE the juice) where I crushed all the pomegranates myself. It’s quite a bit of work without the proper press.
How come they don’t market wine grapes for eating?
Posted in: Grape Growing by admin on
I’ve heard that some of them are quite tasty
pumpkins, it is unfortunate, cause I’ve tasted concord grapes too, and they are great! I don’t care about the seeds or thick skins, I go for flavor
Some of them are good, some of them have lots of tannic acid and taste pretty foul.
Most have gigantic seeds, and really thick skins, and aren’t very pretty.
It’s also probably at least partially because they make more money turning them into wine.
Even if they taste good, people don’t want them. Noone wants to deal with the seeds and thick nasty skins and all. People are just used to Thompson Seedless grapes, so that’s what they want to buy. Noone will waste money marketing a product that they don’t think people will buy.
It’s unfortunate, because concord grapes are delicious.

do i need to prune my grape vine?

The simple answer is yes. Now as to why, Grapes set flower buds on new growth very early in the spring. The resulting flower buds are what produces the grapes.
When: since grapes are mostly grown in areas that have some cold temperatures the best time of the year is in mid winter no later than February in zones 8 to zone 6.
How: remove all of the branches that are coming off of the primary branches. In other words there is the trunk then the branches that come off of the trunk, these are the primary branches. Those that originate from the primary are the secondary, from there are the tertiary branches. The tertiary and all secondary branches should be removed. This will leave a great deal of stored carbohydrates in the roots, trunk and primary branches to initiate and sustain new growth which produces the flowers.
