How to grow grape vine?

Posted in: Grape Growing by admin on February 20, 2010

I bought a grape vine (red grapes), but I am not sure how to construct the trellis support structure… Ideas? Links? – thanks!

Do a google search for how to build a grape trellis, or grape trellis construction. Also, your local library has garden construction and landscaping books. Also, go to Lowes of Home Depot and look in their book section to get some ideas. You might get the books cheaper off of AMazon.com.

On youtube, look up grape vine or arbor or vine growing

If you have a fence or wall ,it would be good to grow against that, as the ripening grapes like it hot, dry, and draught free.Again you could put trellis up,but If you want you could use plastic trellis, which would be better than wood. One thing you do need is a lot of room.If you dont have a wall or fence, then the best way would be to buy some sturdy posts, about 6′ high.Put into ground, dig hole, put in post, use quick-dry cement.Put up railings across top,and about 1′ off ground. Use staples to secure trellis.Leave about 20" in ground.(post)
