What’s the most inexpensive way to make wine?

Posted in: Grape Growing by admin on February 22, 2010

I want to make my own wine, but I don’t want to buy those special kits that cost up to a hundred bucks. So what’s the cheapest method? Thanks.

    non-preserved juice concentrate
    water
    2L bottle
    balloon
    yeast

make the juice, put in the bottle, and throw the yeast in
then puncture some holes in the balloon and put in the end of the bottle

Buy a large bottle of juice, between 2 quarts and a gallon. The product should be 100% juice.

Examples: apple juice, grape juice, pear juice, apple-strawberry juice

Buy yeast, even if it is labeled as "baking yeast", available at grocery stores.

Open the bottle, insert a tiny amount of yeast, and cover the neck of the bottle with dry paper towels. Fasten the towels with an elastic. Do not put the cap back on the bottle.

Put the bottle in a warm place, and leave it there for at least two days.

Refrigerate the bottle, without the cap. This causes the yeast to settle to the bottom of the bottle.

When pouring wine, pour slowly to avoid shaking yeast sediment into beverage. Otherwise, siphon the wine above the yeast sediment into a clean bottle.

The wine will be carbonated at first. After a few weeks, it will release its bubbles and flatten out.

    This costs approximately $5.
